H1N1 - America’s Health Dependant on Other Nations

 Why Weren’t We Prepared?

Previous Administrations and the U. S. Congress are not faultless in the problem we now have with receiving sufficient supplies of vaccine for the H1N1 Swine Flu Virus. Somewhere along the line it was decided that America no longer needed to produce its own vaccines. This duty was farmed out to Canada and other European nations. However, I am sure the Obama Administration, will find a way to not take responsibility for their failure to be prepared either, even though they had months to do so. Are America’s politicians so disengaged and uncaring about anything except their own power struggles; that they really are dumb enough to trust that if there is a major health care crisis other nations will put Americans health and safety before that of their own populations?  Behind The H1N1 Vaccine Shortage, by Sept. 1, there were nearly 3,000 deaths and 29,000 hospitalizations across America from H1N1 virus, better known as the swine flu with a large number of deaths occurring in children and pregnant woman.

America is so broken as a nation that we don’t have the capacity to produce the necessities for our own existence.

"U.S. health officials have recommended two doses for children younger than 10, based on the early results of studies indicating that one dose was insufficient to produce a strong enough immune system response to protect that age group," according to the newspaper. "The recommendation came as the number of U.S. children who have died from the H1N1 virus increased to 114 -- a jump of 19 deaths from the week before" (Stein, 10/31).
Would the U.S. Act to Stop Disease at our Borders?

The first cases of this influenza strain were reported in California and Mexico in March and April and it has since been found in over a hundred countries. This could be much worse, and if there was a disease that could kill hundreds of thousands would the President and Congress make any effort to stop people from coming into this country to further contaminate U. S. citizens?   When we first became aware of H1N1 earlier this year American's were told there was no need to close the U.S. Border with Mexico. While China on the other hand quarantined or kicked out of the country foreigners with H1N1.Our Government is now so worried about being politically correct that if there was a biological terror attack we should wonder if they would in fact act swiftly to protect American’s.

"I know there have been some calls to close the border".
